Cookie Policy
Last updated: 8 November 2026
This policy explains the cookies and similar browser storage used on govmotcheck.co.uk, in line with the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and the UK GDPR.
In Short
Right now we only store your cookie choice. We set no advertising or tracking cookies. If we add analytics, it will stay off until you accept it.
What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files saved on your device when you visit a website. Similar technologies, such as local storage, work in the same way. Some are essential for a site to work; others measure use or personalise content and need your consent.
What We Use
| Name | Type | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| gmc_consent | Strictly necessary | Remembers whether you accepted or rejected optional cookies | 12 months |
| Analytics | Optional (off by default) | Not currently used. If enabled, it would count page views and help us improve guides | Set only after you accept |
| Advertising | Optional | Not used | Not applicable |
Strictly Necessary Storage
These do not need consent because the site cannot remember your choice without them. They never track you across other websites.
Optional Cookies
Optional cookies are blocked until you choose Accept All. Choosing Reject Non-Essential keeps them off. Both choices are equally easy, and you can change your mind at any time.
How To Change Your Choice
- Use Cookie Settings in the footer of any page to reopen the cookie panel.
- Delete the cookie in your browser settings; the panel will appear again on your next visit.
Third-Party Cookies
We do not embed third-party scripts, social buttons or videos that set their own cookies. Links to GOV.UK and other sites open their own pages, which have their own cookie policies.
Browser Controls
Most browsers let you block or delete cookies. See the guidance at aboutcookies.org. Blocking all cookies will not stop the MOT checker working, but we will not be able to remember your choice.
